Case Study 4 - CAM Metro

Cambridge Autonomous Metro (CAM Metro) project is a Public – Private Partnership that could be transformational for Greater Cambridge. The service would run through tunnels under the city and connect to surrounding towns. Electric tram-like vehicles would run every five minutes on segregated routes. Network of 42 km of new infrastructure will cost £1,5 billion. Investments would come from a combination of private (£500 m) and government (£1 bln) funding.

An overground network could be in operation in 2021, with an underground metro being completed by 2025. The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority has already approved £600,000 funding for drawing up a business case for the CAM Metro.
